SAFEGUARDING policy
Policy Statement
Ashcroft Tutoring Agency is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We believe that all children and young people have the right to feel safe and protected from abuse, neglect, and exploitation. Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. This policy outlines our procedures for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children in line with the statutory guidance Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) and all relevant UK legislation.
Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for Ashcroft Tutoring Agency is:
Rebecca Ashcroft
Email: rebecca@ashcrofttutoringagency.co.uk
Rebecca is responsible for ensuring that safeguarding concerns are handled appropriately and in accordance with this policy. She receives regular training and is the first point of contact for all safeguarding matters.
Safer Recruitment and Vetting
To ensure the safety of children and young people, all tutors must have an enhanced DBS check before commencing work with any student. DBS certificates will be verified and recorded by the agency using the Tutor Cruncher system. Identity checks and references will be taken as part of the recruitment process.
Code of Conduct for Tutors
All tutors must prioritise the safety and welfare of children at all times. Maintain appropriate professional boundaries. Avoid being alone with a child where possible. Never engage in any behaviour that could be considered abusive, inappropriate, or unsafe. Report any safeguarding concerns immediately and in writing to the DSL.
Recognising and Responding to Concerns
Tutors must be alert to the signs of abuse and neglect, including physical injury, emotional distress, changes in behaviour, neglect or poor living conditions, and disclosure by a child. If a tutor has a concern about a child’s safety or wellbeing, they must report it in writing to the DSL, Rebecca Ashcroft, without delay. Tutors should not investigate concerns themselves but should pass on all relevant information promptly.
Confidentiality and Record-Keeping
All safeguarding concerns must be documented clearly and accurately. These records must be factual and objective, signed and dated, and submitted securely to the DSL via email. All safeguarding records will be kept confidential and securely stored, in accordance with data protection legislation.
Allegations Against Staff or Tutors
Any allegation made against a tutor or staff member will be taken seriously and handled in accordance with the procedures set out in KCSIE. Allegations must be reported immediately to the DSL. Where appropriate, external agencies such as the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) will be contacted.
Training and Awareness
All tutors will be made aware of this safeguarding policy and expected to familiarise themselves with the principles of Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE), their individual safeguarding responsibilities, and how to recognise and report concerns. Refresher training will be provided as necessary.
Review of Policy
This policy will be reviewed annually or sooner if there are changes in legislation or guidance. Policy last reviewed: July 2025. Next review due: July 2027.
