Key Stage Three English Tuition

Key Stage Three can be a difficult transition. Year 7 moves quickly, classes are often larger and, in some schools, English may be taught across split classes or by non-specialists. It is easy for small gaps to become bigger ones, or for a previously confident child to start feeling that they are falling behind.

Our one-to-one English tuition gives your child the time, attention and reassurance they may not always receive in the classroom.

Who Is This For?

This support is ideal if your child has lost confidence, needs a stronger literacy foundation, is struggling to keep pace, or would benefit from moving into a higher set at school.

We begin with the essentials: fluent reading, stronger vocabulary, secure comprehension, accurate sentence construction, grammar and punctuation. If there are gaps left over from KS2, we address them early so they do not continue to affect your child’s progress.

Because every lesson is one-to-one, your child can say when they are confused, ask questions freely and work at a pace that feels manageable.

Building the Foundations for GCSE

As confidence grows, we begin to develop the skills your child will later need for GCSE English Language and Literature.

This may include analysing a writer’s methods, developing analytical paragraphs, making stronger inferences, comparing texts, practising viewpoint writing and expressing ideas with greater clarity and control.

We are not interested in pushing children into GCSE work too early. The aim is to make sure these important years are not wasted and that your child reaches Years 10 and 11 with the right foundations already in place.

Flexible Support That Fits Around School

Not every child needs weekly tuition indefinitely.

Some families choose a focused block of lessons for a half term to improve a particular area or rebuild confidence. Others prefer fortnightly sessions, sometimes alternating English with Maths or Science.

The goal is simple: to help your child feel more secure, more capable and more confident in the classroom, while making sure they are genuinely progressing rather than simply getting through Key Stage Three.
