Key Stage Two English Tuition

Key Stage Two is where children build the reading and writing skills they will carry into secondary school. If comprehension, spelling, vocabulary or written expression are insecure, the jump into Year 7 can feel much bigger than it needs to.

Our one-to-one English tuition gives your child the time to strengthen those foundations properly, while keeping lessons positive, engaging and confidence-building.

Stronger Reading and Writing

We work on the skills that underpin confident English: fluent reading, comprehension, vocabulary, spelling, grammar, punctuation and clear sentence construction.

Where there are gaps, tutors can go back and address them carefully. Children who are already secure can be stretched through richer texts, more ambitious vocabulary and increasingly sophisticated writing.

The aim is not simply to complete more schoolwork. It is to help your child become a more capable and independent reader and writer.

Preparing for the Move to Secondary School

Year 6 is not only about SATs.

Although SATs are primarily part of primary-school assessment, secondary schools receive KS2 attainment information and may use it, alongside their own early assessments, when deciding initial groups, sets or levels of support.

That can make the first few weeks of secondary school particularly important. Children are adjusting academically, finding their place in new classes and beginning to form friendships at the same time.

We therefore use Year 6 tuition to make sure your child moves into secondary school with secure literacy skills and, just as importantly, confidence in their own ability.

SATs Without Making Everything About SATs

Where useful, we prepare children for SATs-style reading, grammar and comprehension questions so that the format feels familiar and manageable.

But we do not believe Year 6 English should become endless test practice.

The stronger preparation is to make sure your child can read carefully, infer meaning, explain ideas, use evidence and write accurately. Those skills matter for SATs, but they matter far more once secondary school begins.

Building Confidence Before Year 7

For some children, a focused half-term block is enough to address a particular gap. Others benefit from regular support through Years 5 and 6.

The goal is to help your child arrive at secondary school feeling secure, capable and ready for the faster pace of Key Stage Three.
